The interactions established through the Internet can go on to control people's behavior (+2.4 billion people connected ) in different ways. Understanding the variables that affect the behavior of Internet users, and the reinforcement contingencies that keep them making use of this tool, can provide an advantage when it comes to the prediction and control of human behavior, including issues concerning the proper and effective development of new technologies that provide benefits to academia, science, society and business.
The Internet as an experimental laboratory for behavior analysis
A proposal for experimental procedure involving the use of the Internet as a laboratory for analysis of human behavior. Methodological considerations and impacts to the security and privacy of users and online systems. Contact us to get access to this research, other items or schedule a lecture/course.
We need to allow better understanding of the contingencies that control the online behaviors, so this may contribute to the science of behavior analysis and the development of security and privacy controls that necessarily involve the understanding of human behavior to perceive, understand and act upon the risks and threats involved in these environments.
Is essential that the interfaces between users and systems are designed so that security controls are applied automatically and transparently, because errors are minimized when the perception of the security needs of a user match the security controls provided by the systems.
Once connected to the Internet, users are increasingly accessing social network sites (SNSs) to exchange information in real time, producing numerous social episodes.
The online interactions affect users' lives in the "real world"
The great mass of online users fosters consequences that easily exceed the total of the consequences that could be produced if the members acted separately, disconnected from each other.
"The care with online privacy is a matter of social responsibility"
In the press and some social works (conferences / courses)
"The security expert Nelson Novaes Neto has observed that the privacy settings do not apply to the Ticker (Facebook)-that is, even if you configure your wall so it doesn't record your new friendships, for example, they will appear in the Ticker"

“After reading Nelson’s story, I am thinking seriously of creating a whole new Facebook identity for myself — essentially starting over and being a lot more cautious about who ends up on my friend list and what information I make available. You might want to do the same — or simply accept that everything on Facebook is public information, probably a fair expectation in any case.”
- David Coursey, Forbes
As much as the Internet is a virtual environment, the information produced by users in the virtual world can represent some data that is confidential, and that are only of user's interest and privacy.
In the context of behavioral analysis, online security control mechanisms can be classified as an aversive stimulus that is part of the contingencies that control the behavior of Internet users.
Nelson Novaes Neto is passionate about security and behavior analysis in social networks, and also advocate for a Free Internet! +behaviorist +entrepreneur +researcher +speaker +writer +geek
